KENYA
Home of the authenticEast African safari
Kenya is the original East African safari country, rich in lore and legend. It lies on the equator and its vibrant array of cultures and ethnicities is echoed in a wide diversity of natural habitats, and the innumerable species they support. The distinctive grassy plains of the Masai Mara, home to the enormous wildebeest herds of the world-famous Great Migration, are just one of the drawcards of this quintessential safari destination.

BEST OF KENYA
An all-encompassing East African adventure
From the Masai Mara, to white-sand Indian Ocean beaches, forested highlands, acacia-strewn plateaus, towering Mount Kenya, the tropical waters of Lake Victoria and the arid landscapes of the north, the country plays host to an unrivalled array of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Masai Mara National Reserve
The Masai Mara, known locally as the Mara, is Kenya’s crown jewel among its many wildlife reserves. Some 1,550 square kilometres (nearly 600 square miles) of vast, untamed open plains and acacia is threaded dramatically by the Mara River – home to one of the highest wildlife densities in Africa, and the site of the spectacular annual Great Migration.
Mara Triangle
This section of the Masai Mara, where Wilderness Mara is located, is celebrated for its extraordinary wildlife density, particularly during the Great Migration. Here, timeless wilds meet bold conservation. Fewer vehicles, fewer voices, and yet more life, more tension, more drama.
EXPERIENCES
Wilderness Mara
A luxury camp in the Mara Triangle
This classic East African property offers a low-impact experience, with just 12 tented suites, including one family suite, located along the edge of a thriving marsh ecosystem.
Set in the Mara Triangle, it allows guests the rare opportunity to enjoy game viewing activities on both sides of the Mara River, opening up more space for more wildlife, and fewer crowds.
This is classic safari territory: big skies, roaming herds, and raw drama at the river crossings. We’ve kept the camp true to its East African roots; elegant, grounded, and deeply connected to place, while adding just the right touches of comfort: a spa to unwind, a gym for the energetic, and a photographic studio to process the magic at the end of the day.

Amazing experiences
Very helpful and knowledgable
"This is my third trip with Wilderness and to their camps in Africa. Each trip just gets better. The attention to detail in each camp is superior beyond words. The food, the settings, the guides, the staff .... everything and everyone is incredible. They greet you at the airports to make sure you are able to get through without issues. And they get you from camp to camp on the internal flights - which are much fun! I recommend them to all my friends and hope to return to Africa again in the future."
"I first contacted Wilderness only wanting a suggestion for a safari camp in a more secluded spot in Kenya- thinking we could book something ourselves directly with a camp. I was blown away by how knowledgable and helpful Angela was in being able to curate a safari experience (with all camps in Kenya, not just Wilderness camps) that was exactly what we wanted. I also realized how foolish it would have been to have tried to do this on our own."

When is the best time to go on a Kenya safari?
The Great Migration river crossings in the Masai Mara peak from July to October – this is Kenya's most sought-after wildlife spectacle. For fewer crowds and greener landscapes, the shoulder months of November and April offer exceptional game viewing at better value.
Which Wilderness camps are in Kenya, and where are they located?
Wilderness Mara is in the Mara Triangle, which allows access to a lesser visited conservancy within the Masai Mara ecosystem.
Is Kenya good for a first safari?
Absolutely. Kenya's Masai Mara is one of the most rewarding destinations in Africa for first-time safari guests – exceptional predator sightings, iconic landscapes, and experienced Wilderness guides.
How long should I spend in Kenya?
A minimum of 4 nights gives you meaningful time in Kenya. Most first-timers benefit from 5-7 nights, particularly if combining game viewing with the Migration season.
How many camps do you typically visit?
This is entirely up to you. Wilderness Mara offers a unique experience in the Masai Mara, and our custom-designed journeys typically combine it with associated partner properties in Kenya, or our camps in Tanzania and Rwanda for an extensive East African safari.
Is it safe?
You can rest easy knowing that your Kenyan safari is safe in our hands. Our industry-leading incident management capability, Wilderness24, provides seamless and professional response to any risk event. Our guides are recognised leaders in the field, combining years of safari expertise with an understanding of the wildlife, allowing for safe and respectful encounters.
Do you cater for different dietary requirements?
